What do you do with yours?

When I first came across this project I was looking for a method of controlling electrical devices based on the output of my solar PV system. I don't know if I will be entirely successful but I'm a very good deal closer to being able to do that. I'm very happy that the investment in time and money has been well worthwhile.

But with all those relays, inputs and prodigious Internet and other connectivity options I'm sure I'm not using any more than a small portion of the capability of this device.  So, the question is, what do you use yours for?

Here's my list

I, like you, initially started this project to control a few electrical devices, but this soon expanded to other uses once the full capability of this unit started to dawn on me. Currently I use it for the following:   Energy usage monitoring via Current cost. Security lighting / house lamp operation based on sundown times programmed into Google calendar. Heating control via a modified lidl RF switch, using 1 wire temperature devices as a thermostat and Google calendar as the programmer. House alarm monitoring / control: If the alarm goes off, the bell signal from the alarm triggers an input and the twitter plug-in notifies me on my mobile. I can also trigger a panic alarm using the relays connected to the panic circuit. Multiple 1 wire temperature devices throughout the house allow me to adjust radiator valves very accurately and control my heating. Iphone control of the HAH from outside the house using the MOTE app. All data feeds go to Pachube for plotting.   The list is growing nicely ;)   I am currently looking at IR control of tv/audio equipment via a jeenode, then after that I’m sure they’ll be something else. The list truly is endless with this kit! Cheers Garry. Ps Good idea for a forum topic!.

Endless possibility ...

Much of my work with the HAH is in trying out new ideas that can be productionised and written up on the HAH wiki. My day-to-day HAH is used for Wake-on-LAN (handy 'cos I'm away from home a lot). CurrentCost feeding to Pachube (so that I can call home & complain about the excessive electricity usage). I've added an RF receiver. This works with the HomeEasy door sensors, so can get an alert when the fridge door is open for too long.

Usual RF based control of a few mains sockets.

My Joggler shows temperatures inside and out (from some wired ds18B20s) together with current power usage.

Of course with the new Airwick RoomNodes, I now have loads of new BSC Endpoint information. Lots of potential here as RoomNodes, being completely wireless, are so easy to setup.

Joggler waste of money :(

Software unavalible.

would love to

"My Joggler shows temperatures inside and out (from some wired ds18B20s) together with current power usage." as well as pv output etc

not to be :(

Not invented here ...

Well, on the HAH project, we like to keep everything 'open'. All source code is up on Google Code for any and all to inspect/download/tweak/enjoy & writeups are on the wiki.

The Joggler (xapFlash) code is not of our making, nor ours to share. It's done by one of the very best xAP gurus and Brett has worked hard to make the HAH integrate with this. The results are truly great.

There are some complex reasons why this Joggler code is not more widely shared. I've probably mentioned this before, but if you would like a copy of the xapFlash code, you might go ask on the automatedhome.com forum.

Joggler software

Its a little gutting that I had to reverse engineer the iServer protocol from packets on the wire using the windows version as a reference point.  Code the whole thing, test, debug, document and deploy only to have the application suspended.  I've spoken/emailed Kevin a few times about getting this opened but progress is slow.

The reasons for it being closed has now been removed from the equation so it might happen. Fingers crossed.

No Response.

I am sooo jealous of you guy's with a working joggler. at present my 7 year old uses it to see what the weather is going to be like. I use it as a paperweight to hold the bills down and to check on traffic before i set out!

Thanks a billion!

Just to provide some gratitude for all that work, I use my Joggler every day for controlling my whole house and all my Squeezebox stuff....it is as all my mates tell me "a bit geeky but amazing"  and for "HOW much?".  I'll definitely be buying another couple of the bleeders.

Not only that as soon as I start shaving off a little more time in my day, I will use this system and it's abilities to help train myself in Lua programming to further expand my system...

Thanks for all the work on Iserver!
