Trouble getting RF working

Hi Derek,

Finally, I've got mostly everything up and running. Most initial parts logging to pachube (43437). This whole eco system is great, I'm really looking forward to expanding. Some of the extent of the use from other posts is absolutely amazing. And the roomnode (hint) is going really well.

My stumbling block at the moment is with the basic RF. I've fitted it straigh with the your exteral smb, centre core to the antenna, sheild to gnd. vcc/gnd = 12.15Vish but I just can't get anything to work.

the relays work fine, so I know the comms is good.

I've moved back from the homeasy and started with the lidl plug I bought from you.

To be clear on the lidl plug; switch on at mains, active so the green led comes on; press and hold teach; send 01020320028A05DC028A05DC0514032004B00C029C401515B15556160 via rf1 (tried both flash gui, so I can see xap state change and control tab); release teach button. Press off on gui button and switch doesn't got off etc.

Anything I've missed, any help appreciated.

Cheers,Ian.

Try removing 1wire temporarily

I have noticed from your Pachube that you seem to have a fair few 1wire sensors. Is this correct?  If so try removing them temporarily to see if this helps your rf issue. I have noticed a link between the number of 1wire devices and RF operation. Although, I have a very long and strange 1wire bus (using home alarm wiring) which both Brett and Derek advised against. So I guess I have only myself to blame. :)  I do have a work around if you find this is the problem

Cheers

Thanks for suggestions Garry.

Thanks for suggestions Garry. I really only had the one temp from the hah board. But I subsequently did try unplugging it, the current cost and the jeenode, i.e. all other perhiperals. Still the same I'm afraid.

AVR firmware version

What version of firmware are you running on the AVR chip? (latest is 3.4).

Also, I've seen one person have trouble with a bad solder joint on the 'data' pin to the RF Tx module. Buzz out the connection on the module back to the PCB to make sure it's good.

If you telnet in to the HAH & stop the xap-livebox process, you can use microcom to run the URF command interactively. This will show if there are any errors in parsing the command line itself.

Hi Derek,yes I'm running

Hi Derek,

yes I'm running 3.4

Managed to get into microcom and run urf.

For the lidl socket, which is my test bed, I get an error when sending (stream taken from wiki)

>urf 01020320028A05DC028A05DC0514032004B00C029C401515B15556160

Transmit RF

Not enough data

RF failure

I took the stream direct from wiki for the lidl unit.

Try this

this string works on lidl for me. Try this

01020320028A05DC028A05DC0514032004B00C029C4015CB1555555540

Gotta be a wiki typo

Eeek!

I can't check against the strings on my unit 'till the weekend, but that 'not enough data' message is a smoking gun showing that the string is wrong. When you run the urf interactively, you will see the string being parsed and detailed info should be printed out. As I recall, 'not enough data' means that the specified number of frames were not actually present.

I'll get this sorted on the weekend.

My bad

Yes, a typo on the wiki ... I missed an extra trailing 0 in the 'on' strings for the Lidl RF socket.

Corrected now & all three sets of codes re-tested as good on a second Livebox.

Sorry for any inconvenience & thanks for spotting this.

Derek.
