Status 4 way RF block

Hi,

I picked up some of the normal mains socket Status RF modules the other day (working fine), but also caught sight of a 4 way extension block with individual control of the sockets!

Thought it looked useful so grabbed one, problem is it seems to use a slightly different protocol to the individual sockets :( When you train it with the remote, you have to press the learn button on the extension block, and any button on the RF remote. After this all 4 on/off sections work correctly without further training, which suggests to me that the training procedure just sends a unique code from the transmitter?

Anyone seen/bought/played with one of these yet? :D

Training

That's how most of them work, I take it it turns off/on all the sockets on the 4 way at once?  Is the same remote able to control the single socket RF modules?  We can decode the signal if necessary, but I would have thought it would use the same as the single sockets.

slightly different....

Sorry should have explained better, the remote has an all on/off section, but also individual control of all 4!

I can control a single RF main socket with the all on/off buttons, but can't get it to pair with any of the 1-4 individual buttons.

Since the pairing procedure didnt require pairing of each of the 4 sockets individually, just 1, it seems to me that the RF extension block already knows some parameters?

First time I've played with these, and only just built my HAH, so correct me if I'm wrong :)

ASDA product?

Hi Andy

Do you happen to know if these are an ASDA product - or do you have a product code perhaps?  All I can see on-line are the wire-free 4 socket extenders - I might have to drag myself down to Bournemouth and have a shufti!!  Where are you?

regards

Hi ElliotSorry for the delay

Hi Elliot

Sorry for the delay in replying. I'm not sure if I've given a confusing description, so here's a link to the closest thing I can find to it!

http://buyhomeeasy.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=1&products_id=59

The one from ASDA is branded STATUS like their other 1 way RF sockets. It's black, has a red LED for each of the 4 sockets, comes with a silver remote.

As I said previously, the remote allows individual switching of each of the 4 sockets, or a group on/off. It cost £35, not exactly cheap it was an impulse "that would be useful!" purchase :). I assumed since it was the STATUS range, the existing reverse engineering would still apply.

Since buying it I've tried to find it on the ASDA website with no luck. I picked it up at a big ASDA in Sheffield.....bit of a trek from Bournemouth ;)

Hope this helps, it's a bit beyond my skills to reverse engineer any differences from the already sussed STATUS sockets (unless I'm missing something obvious).

Hi Andy,

Normally I'd go out and buy one, but you're right, £35 is a bit steep just to decode it.  How are you supposed to control the individual sockets, what does it say in the manual?  Could you post a picture of the remote.

Also, have you tried to "teach" it with one of the single socket remotes, this might indicate that it's using a similar format of signal, and help find a way forward, if you can tell us how you control the individual sockets it might help identify a pattern.

I decoded a Lidl unit not long ago and found that each button cycled through a number of different signals, so I've since learnt never to asume anything.  As a last resort, if your happy to pay postage and for me to take the transmitter apart, I could try and decode it for you.  I can't guarantee a result, but I've done it before.

Thanks for that...

Hi Andy - yup it'd be a long trek!!! Guess I'll have to keep my eyes open down this neck of the woods....

The HomeEasy substitute doesn't control the individual sockets, which is a bugger - 'cos its several pounds cheaper - oh well!

Are you going to take up Boxing on his offer to reverse engineer the codes?  If you are then I'm going to wait on the sidelines until there's a positive outcome.... until then i'll stick with my single HomeEasy and multiblock adaptor solution!!!!!

Be well.....

A few piccies......

Here's a pic of the remote, remote & 4 way block, and showing just socket 2 powered (red LED).

Sorry for delays, "play" time is a bit limited at moment due to busy work and impending new addition to family..........can someone look into adding a "pause time" button to the HAH, surely just a case of a bit of breaboard and a flux capacitor?

Will try your suggestions ASAP BoxingOrange!! If I fail to get anywhere will look into sending it across for you to look at, sounds like this fills a bit of a technical gap (albeit expensive).

Manual

Without being blunt, have you read the manual.  The answer is probably in there, although in your first post you "sort of" imply you've had it working.

As for conncting it to the HAH, if you can pair it with one of the single Status rf units you might be lucky and we might be able to work something out, but I think this is a long shot.  When/if you do this, get the HAH to send the RF signal, use the web gui, rather than a remote.
