Hi

Has anyone managed to successfully control any of the available TRVs ?

My goal is to simply open and close a valve via rf. I don't need feedback.

AFAIK, not yet

I did do a little research into how the Pegler iTemp RF valves worked but kinda dropped this a while back. They work at 868MHz and it should be possible to get an RFM12B to control them.

However, it's on the back burner for now.

Motorised valve

Hi

Just thought I'd share this. It's a 12 volt motorised 15mm valve bought from Ebay/China for approx £18 inc post. I'm impressed by the quality. I plan to use it with an output node to isolate a section of my heating.

The only success I have heard

The only success I have heard of is via ian7 in this thread:

http://www.homeautomationhub.com/content/outputnode-info

using modified outputnode sketch on jeenode for Conrad TRV.

might be worth a message to see how he got on?

Garry

PS the motorised valve does look interesting!

Radiator Valves

I have given up on trying to control rf radiator valves and have gone the easy route. I have mains adjacent to the relevant valves so have just swapped the trv for one of these

and extended the wire via a junction box (housing a neon indicator) to a 13 amp plug top and plugged into a HomeEasy rf socket.

Job done!

Mains valve part

Hi John,

Thanks for the info. Can you tell us the part number/supplier of your valves?

Derek.

Got them from

Valve in situ. I used a junction box to joint wires.. a small plastic box would have been neater.

Wireless valve setup came up

Wireless valve setup came up on a daily deals website i follow, looks fairly well priced, not sure what frequency the valves operate on but you could interface directly with the Cube box to control each zone via the pc software, also you can split rooms into zones and cut down on the one room one thermostat approach

the Window Sensors can kill the heating for a particular room to save chucking heat out of an open window (useful for teenages rooms)

Radiator Valve ~ £25

Individual Room Thermostat ~ £26

Cube Gateway ~ £43

Window Sensor ~ £17

Integrating and Hacking – There’s no API for MAX! and it doesn’t look like there will be one in the future.  There is a third party Control4 Driver available from Extra Vegetables if that’s your home automation controller.  For the DIY hacker there’s support for MAX! built into the Fhem open source software package.  You can control the actuators using several hardware devices from Busware including an Arduino module and this Raspberry Pi Extension Board.  There is more information available on the MAX! Protocol Here if you have the qualifying neck beard.
