Just received this from Pachube, or should i say COSM, or should i say Xively!!

Hello,

LogMeIn is excited to announce that Cosm has come out of beta as Xively, the first Public Cloud for the Internet of Things!

Xively Cloud Services is an IoT platform-as-a-service (PaaS) that builds on the rich legacy of Pachube and Cosm to deliver a completely new development experience and highly scalable platform for commercial products and solutions.

We learned a lot in the beta period. Based on your input and feedback, we have added some exciting features as well as modified our service to ensure we focus on the exploding demands of the connected world.

As current Cosm users, you'll notice some big changes when you come to the site:

  • Cosm.com now redirects to Xively and with that comes an entirely new look and feel. Don't worry, your login is still the same and you can access your account and data right now.
  • An intuitive Developer Workbench centralizes everything you need to create, debug and deploy your connected product and service innovations.
  • A comprehensive Developer Center with API guides, tutorials, videos and libraries that support hundreds of platforms, millions of gateways and billions of devices.
  • We've put a highly scalable provisioning and management service that can support one to one billion devices in the hands of every developer and we've made it easy for you to use with the Xively Management Console.
  • Our Terms of Service continue to put you in control - you own your data and can choose whether to share all, part, or none of it with who you want under the terms that you specify. You can view our terms of service here.
  • You have the ability to selectively share data and control through the Xively Connected Object Cloudâ„¢, enabling you to interconnect devices, aps and services with third-party devices, aps and service to create exponentially capable experiences.
  • Any data feed that you choose to make public is indexed and available on major search engines including Google and Bing.
  • We are changing the way you follow feeds. We will be announcing more about this in the coming days. If you were following feeds, you will see a personal email from us that lists the feeds you were following and how you can use the new tools to follow them.
  • If you are a Current Cost customer, we are retiring the Cosm Current Cost Dashboard. Please use the Current Cost dashboard.
  • We now offer commercial service with a flexible pricing model. Full details are right on the website.

We are also announcing collaboration with ARM, one of the largest component manufacturers, and are offering the Xively Jumpstart Kit: mbed Edition. This will pair a flexible IoT prototyping platform with Xively Cloud Services, giving you a clear path to create your connected product or solution.

To help you with this transition, we have created a few assets to help you including:

We're excited about releasing Xively, the first of our next-generation services to help you drive the IoT revolution and we hope you are too! We can't wait to see what you build! Come visit us now at Xively.

Sincerely,

The Xively Team

Disaster

Graphing from website is very poor and ios apps stopped working!  Not sure we'll ever get back to what we had :(

I'll investigate more later

not happy though

EDIT: cannot view charts for more than 6 hours ago and no scale on y axis?  My charts are now useless!  Gutted.

It seems it's only geared for

It seems it's only geared for recent tracking. If you want to go further back you download a csv :(

All change....

Your Feeds are still there, and now labeled as “Legacy Feeds”. Full product management means letting you work with products and their feeds, rather than just feeds alone.

So have I lost my historic data?

The old API will still work, but you’ll want to switch to the new https://api.xively.com API as soon as possible in order to get the new security and features we’ve built, and will continue to roll out regularly.

Does this mean we have to change the HAH config or does this require Brett to timker?

Yep I'll need to tinker with

Yep I'll need to tinker with xap-pachube... or should I rename this to xap-WhatTheFuckWillTheyCallThemselvesNextWeek.

Looks like monetize time

Suspect that the 'free lunch' of pachube/cosm is all but over. Not sure that HA types would actually pay for this sort of capability - rrdtool takes some beating. Looking at the reworked site last night ... I might have read it wrong, but 30days of history is a long way short of what we used to enjoy. On-site graphs seem to be poorer too - again I might not be looking at the right part.

Anyway, I can't check more just now. The BA Lounge WiFi firewall blocks access to xively.com

Derek, I think you are

Derek, I think you are right.

Free lunch over, 30 day history but only available via data export. Charting seems to be 6 hours only.

I need to regularly check over the last 24 hours to see when events happened, such as boiler on/off times etc.

might be time I look elsewhere :(

 suggest a move to Rasp-pi +

suggest a move to Rasp-pi + openremote with data storage

the PI is awesome (XBMC & Freepbx on my two just want HAH hub) and cheap.

assuming Openremote doesn't drop the designer as free.

Alex,I was planning on this

Alex,

I was planning on this this in my, (cough) spare time, but I got foiled as my PI's ethernet jack I could not get to work.  Without ethernet a PI is kind of useless.   I either need to figure out why or just buy another.

maybe useful

Hi Brett

at the risk of teaching egg sucking

Hmm what error are you getting?

The PI is very PSU fussy. I tried a few. 1A plus with decent regulation seems to behave (I'm using a usb psu from 'Optimum' - nope never heard of them but it was lying about in the junk pile).

http://elinux.org/R-Pi_Troubleshooting#Ethernet_connection_is_lost_when_a_USB_device_is_plugged_in

I had the PI misbehave if you plugged anything in on smaller PSUs.

The usb leads about can be a bit wimpy I hear.

and it seems some  suffered from soldering issues.

http://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/4481/why-isnt-my-ethernet-working

I also had to remake the SD card a few times, it didn't always take or had a poor connection.

basically start from scratch with everything

xap-xively?

Hi Brett - I know you've been busy on the Current Cost Gas smart - any forecast for an aforementioned xively fix?

I havent even had an email from xively yet on how to access my old followed feeds, of which my own EnviR/Current Cost was one, so the ability for us dump straight to xively would be great.

I made some changes to use

I made some changes to use the xively API and its working just fine.

Things I'm pondering

  • rename the [pachube] section in the xap-livebox.ini
  • rename the xap-pachube service
  • rename dbzoo.livebox.Pachube xAP source and its manual push service.

If people want a clean break from pachube I can do this  but it will mean everybody has some manual edits after upgrading or I need to include an auto upgrade script that run once to rename the [pachube] section in your xap-livebox.ini file to [xively]

I think this is a good idea - a clean switch Ditch Pachube once and for all.  Glad I didn't bother when it switched to cosm!

New API?

"I made some changes to use the xively API and its working just fine."

Thanks - can I just verify that this is using the new, native Xively API?

I created a new Device in the Xively workbench, obtained the feed id, and new Key, entered these in the HAH fields, restarted etc. I can see that Xap-Pachube is running, but there is no update going to the new Xively feed....

 OR

Did you mean your updates were a tidy up, but still legacy (that's working fine).

I mean I need to change a

I mean I need to change a reasonable amount of code, which I've done, and recompile and check this in.

What is strange thou is that my feeds are working but there is no graphs happening on xively ?!

Man they have screwed this over big time.  :(  Or at least no graphs are appearing for me

My new feed from the changes I just made:  https://xively.com/feeds/1970985268

ALSO they increased the size of the feed numbers and until you get my code change you won't be able to enter this LARGER number as it will truncate.

Brett

UPDATE: The graphs are working - stupid browser cache.  I've commited my changes there is still no beta pushed yet.

Great - your new feed looks ok. Will wait for code release.

I updated some of the images

I updated some of the images for cacti integration and added a few more sections - just to whet your appetite.

Good job Brett

I would be more than happy to add the instructions for installing on rasp pi if you give me wiki edit rights. I also use the graph export function to make html pages with charts on for viewing outside my network, again happy to document this.

cheers

Garry.
