Bricked Livebox

How excited was I.  Found your site via Automated Home, hunted down a Livebox, and then bricked it.  I was so excited, it's the first time I've tried something like this, but I missed one key part, I didn't unzip the reboot_blueg5.6-patched.gz file, and just copied that into /dev/mtd0.  I hope this is a warning to everyone else not to rush.

Will I try again?? JTAG looks way beyond me, and I can't really see me buying another box, so it looks like a trip to the recycling, oh well.  Pretty fed up really, reader be warned.  The instructions are good, make sure you read them!

Keep up the good work guys, I'll keep looking back to see how HAH develops.

One bookend

Sorry to hear this. I updated the Wiki instructions to BOLDEN the 'Unzip it' instruction.

JTAG isn't something that we've tried.

Now, please don't give up. You were so nearly there with the hacking in. If you are patient, you will pickup a Livebox on eBay for around a tenner (or if you are awash with cash, there are a couple of 'pre-flashed' ones on eBay.co.uk just now).

As for developments, I'm beginning to research howto add support for an RF receiver - this won't happen quickly as it's quite a bit of work.

she's a brick and I'm drowning slowly

This is the only crucial part of the process where a failure cannot easily be recovered from, sorry to hear that things didn't go well.  Based on your feedback I've amended the notes around this area so other don't rush ahead of themselves.  Do keep an eye on ebay for another livebox, my mate has picked them up for as low as 99p on a good day.

Boldly Moving On

Hi Brett,

I've just checked the updated page, and it's alot clearer, I hope that avoids anyone else having the same problem.

I did see one go for 0.99p last week, ironically I had it on my watch list but didn't bid.  There are a few finishing today, so I think I'll give it another go.  I just felt a bit sorry for myself the other day, especially knowing how close I was.

I'll keep the old one for now, it does make a nice bookend after all :)

It's Alive !!

Well, I've managed to get another box, and updated the RedBoot loader OK this time.  I've now got the HAH firmware installed and have been onto the web pages.  Next stop CurrentCost, Pachube and Twitter.

It might be worth adding somewhere on the wiki that the Livebox will reset itself to DHCP mode; I spent a few minutes panicing until I connected it to my LAN and looked at my DHCP server to see a new entry.

Thank's for the encouragement, keep up the good work.

Sweet success

Good job on the successful load of the HAH firmware. I'll check the wiki details re the DHCP requirement. Note that there is a new release of the firmware available today. Just follow the instructions on the wiki to do an 'autoupdate' http://www.dbzoo.com/livebox/hah#firmware_updates

Do let us know how you get on with using your new HA controller.

DHCP

Right at the beginning of the http://www.dbzoo.com/livebox/hah page in the list of feature it's mentioned that the IP address is obtained via DHCP.  Yep its documented alright.

DHCP's All Right

Yep, it's there.  But as someone with no experience at this sort of thing, I was following the links through and then found myself wondering what to do next.  Don't get me wrong, the instructions are great, and it's because of your site that I've been inspired to have a go, I guess that I just need to stop rushing and learn to walk before I start running.

I'm looking forward to slowly building something up and learning lots on the way with this great project.

Keep up the great work.
