This is an advanced warning to let you know sometime before xmas the site will be down for a 24hr period for some maintenance.  I'll update this thread as the time approaches.

Upgrade tomorrow

Testing has gone better than I expected so I'm going to move the site tomorrow 9-10am EST  (+5 for GMT) 2pm-3pm.

Although the site move will only take 15min the DNS records also need updating as I'm also moving to newer hardware so it may take up to 12-24hrs for the global caches to catchup with this change.  If you navigate to the site and still see it down for maintenance you know you'll need to wait a little longer.

For those of you using Windows boxes what can also happen is that the IP address get's cached there so even thou the DNS is correct you can still not connect.

  1. restart you browser (it caches too).
  2. drop to the command line and try C:/> IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS
  3. If all else fails try a reboot its the windows way.

Fingers crossed this goes well 2mrw.

Back up and running.

The site is has moved to a new physical server and its back up and running.  Seemless.

Originally it was hosted on a PIII@1.4Ghz now its on a box with Dual Xeon@2.33Ghz so hopefully it might be a little zipper too.
